My Business Philosophy
Never take for granted the importance of extremely good delivery. It sets off a chain reaction. Good delivery creates trust, trust creates relationships, and relationships create enduring value.
Outside the office

Tom spent his high school and college years in Louisiana. Although he now resides in Charlotte, he honors his Cajun roots by hosting an annual crawfish boil for family and friends.

Tom Mataconis
Vice President, Consulting

Tom Mataconis is a proven financial services industry veteran. He has more than two decades of expertise in lending – retail, mortgage, small business, and commercial – across the United States and Canada and has led business and IT transformational efforts with many of North America’s leading banks.

Current Role

As CG’s Vice President of Consulting, Tom has three primary responsibilities. He is charged with building the consulting practice, ensuring that CG continues to have the right people in the right locations with the right skills. He is also responsible for leading thought leadership efforts for CG’s Communities of Practice (which include Cards & Payment Services, Mortgage & Consumer Lending, Core Banking & Deposits, and Wealth Management). Finally, he works closely with CG’s sector leads to help clients achieve their goals – including risk reduction, cost reduction, and revenue generation.

Past Experience

Prior to joining CG, Tom enjoyed a successful career at Accenture, most recently as Managing Partner, leading the firm’s most strategic efforts in the Canadian Banking group. Before that, he led Accenture’s North American Lending practice and worked with clients including Bank of America, SunTrust, Toronto-Dominion Bank, Royal Bank of Canada, CIBC, BMO Financial Group, Wells Fargo, Wachovia, M&T Bank, AmSouth, Regions, and Compass Bank. Tom joined Accenture in 1990 in Dallas as an Analyst and progressed to Senior Manager; he was promoted to Partner in 2000. He began his career as a technologist and was one of the early practitioners of Business Process Reengineering. Given his technical, process, and business acumen, he led many of Accenture’s larger “transformation” efforts, helping banks drive meaningful change across people, process, and technology components of their business.

What Drives His Success

Tom’s success is driven by his passion for collaboration. Throughout his career, he has assembled dynamic teams and leveraged their diverse experience to solve complex business challenges. He is a member of the Mortgage Bankers’ Association, a former member of the Risk Management Association, and has been a guest speaker on topics spanning lending transformation, credit risk and process excellence. To stay at the forefront of industry trends, he chiefly relies on a strong network of peers, clients, analysts, and software vendors.

Education and Community

Tom holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of New Orleans and an MBA from Rollins College. He has given back to the community by being involved with The Urban League, the YMCA, and local youth sports.

Outside the Office

With “work hard, play hard” as one of his mantras, Tom spends his free time outdoors with his family. They have a house in the mountains, which is their home base for hiking, camping, skiing, fishing, and four-wheeler adventures.
